Look to the Stars ...

"There they stand, the innumerable stars, shining in order like a living hymn, written in light." ~N.P. Willis

"Silently, one by one, in the infinite meadows of heaven, Blossomed the lovely stars, the forget-me-nots of the angels."
~Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Evangeline

Maybe the stars are a reminder of the Peace that is capable of existing
in our own world ...

Find Some Peace Tonight ...

So much of real life is like this world of blogging; isn't it?... Flashy images and pretty, simple, easy to read words.  Image hit, image hit, hit image ... hit?  Are we all really that tired?  Have we lost touch with substance, deep meanings and beauty that goes beyond surface deep?  I just wonder sometimes ... just wonder ... shake my tired head and wonder ...

In the arms of the angel may you find some company ... find some peace tonight ...

God Bless all the people in the Middle East.  They are people just like you and me for the most part, but people who have lived in fear ... lived without freedoms that we in the West too often take for granted.  May Peace enter their lives, touch their hearts and way of thinking ...living.

Take my hand and walk with me awhile ...

If a tree falls in the forest and no one hears it fall ... does it in reality fall?

"Take My Hand and Walk With Me Awhile"

I stand here before you, empty of hand.
Alas, I have nothing tangible to offer.
No past that I can rightly cling to as being my own.
No future to hold onto, nor reason for my being,
Save this here ... this now ... this thought
And a simple wish:
That peace of body, mind and spirit be intertwined
In the momentary making of this knowing that is me.

Ever changing, never fixed, I wonder as I wander
Through this journey, we call "life",
Waiting to be woven into the transitory purpose at hand.
Clear of mind, free of spirit, pure of heart,
I strive only to see the beauty that abounds.
I am an empty vessel waiting to be filled.
Take my hand and walk with me awhile ...

"I Have a Dream" ...

God Bless you, Martin Luther King Jr., and your family and loved ones.  We remember you today, and we are so very thankful for the many gifts that you left behind ... especially your legacy of Peace, Love and Understanding.  Your words do live on in our hearts and minds ... and hopefully in our actions as well.

"I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: 'We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal.'"

“I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.”

"From every mountainside, let freedom ring. When we let freedom ring, when we let it ring from every village and every hamlet, from every state and every city, we will be able to speed up that day when all of God's children, black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics, will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old Negro spiritual, "Free at last! Free at last! Thank God Almighty, we are free at last!"

~Martin Luther King Jr., I Have a Dream, 1963.

Nobel Peace Prize Win for President Obama: A step towards hope ...

Congratulations to President Obama on his win of the Nobel Peace Prize, for his vision of world peace.

However, unexpected President Obama's win may have been:  it does lend credence to a worthy goal -- although, at times, seemingly unattainable goal -- of a world at peace, with all inhabitants of this planet living together in harmony.

Hopefully, President Obama's win will futher advance this worthy cause.  It gives me hope ...

We can't afford to simply categorize this goal of world peace as unattainable and do nothing.  The price of doing nothing is just too high!

While I realize that we have to be practical in our approach to peace ... that is, sometimes those with the ability to stand up against an agressor, who is doing wrong or something that would harm others, are compelled to act in defense of those unable to defend themselves ... I am hopeful, that our world leaders will strive to find a common ground for the good of all the wonderful inhabitants of this miraculously diverse, ever changing, blue spinning planet.

May peace fill your day and light your way ...

Latest Jewelry Creations ...

After a night of soul searching on Wednesday, I needed to roll up my sleeves and get my hands dirty. I needed to create something to help me reengage in the here and now. So here are the latest jewelry creations. And thanks to the wonders of modern medicine: I did sleep for 6 hours last night. I absolutely hate to use drugs, but once in a while: it's nice to feel human again!

Earth, Wind, Fire, Water ...

P.S. I did compose a sequel to "The Hunter's Moon", but you'll have to email me for a copy if you want to read it. It's just too personal to post out here for all the world to see ... And sometimes, you have to brave the darkness in order to understand the light.

Sanctity of Human Life

Per my recent entry: "Children: Opening Our Hearts and Minds", dated November 3, 2008. A friend of mine sent me this email today concerning some potential legislation regarding existing abortion laws in this country.

"Dear Friend, I'm writing to let you know about a terrible piece of legislation called "The Freedom of Choice Act" (FOCA).FOCA would establish the right to abortion as a fundamental right (like the right to free speech) and wipe away every restriction on abortion nationwide. It will eradicate state and federal abortion laws that the majority of Americans support and prevent states from enacting similar protective measures in the future. Please read the expert analysis by Americans United for Life (AUL) and sign the Fight FOCA petition at: http://www.fightfoca.com/
Thank you,
Linda"

If this is a cause that is near to your heart, please visit the website mentioned and read more. Then, sign the petition -- if you would like.

On the subject of the sanctity of human lives ...

I hope you all had a blessed Thanksgiving. For me, Thanksgiving was overshadowed by the hostage crisis in India. I pray for all who lost their lives and loved ones in this tragedy.

I wish with all of my heart (and I pray for this daily) that all of us, living on this planet, will place more value on the precious gift of human life (at any age). Whatever religion you practice, or beliefs you subscribe to, you are naive to think that God (or the Supreme Being) will not hold those that take a life, or lives, personally accountable for each and every life that they have been responsible for extinguishing. God, in His love and infinite wisdom, chooses to grant each and every single life; All life is precious is to Him. How arrogant, foolish, and defiant of God the Father to take it upon oneself to choose an end to His gift of life.

Jesus said to his disciples, "Do not fear those who deprive the body of life but cannot destroy the soul. Rather, fear him who can destroy both body and soul in Gehenna. Are not two sparrow sold for next to nothing? Yet not a single sparrow falls to the ground without your Father's consent. As for you, every hair on your head has been counted; so do not be afraid of anything. You are worth more than an entire flock of sparrows. Whoever acknowledges me before men I will acknowledge before my Father in heaven. Whoever disowns me before men I will disown before my Father in heaven." (Matthew, 10:28-33)

"As for you, every hair on your head has been counted; so do not be afraid of anything." This passage jumps off the page and says, to me, that each life is so precious to God our Father that He has counted each and every single hair on our heads -- each and every single one of us living on this planet. Wow! Definitely something to think about ...

I know that God loves us so much that he gave us free will. That's why we are here: to make choices ... choices that impact the greater world around us for better or worse. We have choices and our choosing to do what is right gives God glory and in turn makes the world in which we live a better place. Choosing to do what is right is not always easy, but those hard choices give even greater glory to God.

In closing, here is something else to think about with regard to the tragedy in India:"Love Your Enemies ... You have heard the commandment, 'You shall love your countryman but hate your enemy.' My command to you is: love your enemies, pray for your persecutors. This will prove that you are sons of your Heavenly Father, for His sun rises on the bad and the good, He rains on the just and the unjust. If you love those who love you, what merit is there in that? Do not tax collectors do as much? And if you greet your brothers only, what is so praiseworthy about that? Do not pagans do as much? In a word, you must be made perfect as your Heavenly Father is perfect." ( Jesus to his disciples, Matthew 5:43:48)

Peace, Joy & Prosperity

God Bless!

Pope Benedict Issues a New Statement: What is The Meaning?

I just heard -- via CBN -- that Pope Benedict has issued a new statement to the effect that the Catholic Church is the "one true church" and that other religions (i.e., protestants) are "not guaranteed salvation" -- according to CBN reporter.

If this is , in fact, true: I have to say, I am greatly disappointed! At a time when religions around the world should be working together to find common ground and peace, in a chaotic and often violent world, to have the leader of the Catholic Church issue such a statement seems prime to cause further division and serves no useful purpose.

I know for a fact that there are many, many Catholics who do not feel, or believe, this way. And in fact, Benedict was an author of the current "Catholic Catechism", in which it states that there are many religions and many paths to God and salvation. So why is Benedict changing his view now that he is Pope? Were the statements in question misinterpreted?

Any insights? Am I missing something?

Okay, here is the link to the official Vatican website. You will have to cut and paste it into your browser window -- as the Vatican website does not allow links from blog pages:

http://www.vatican.va/roman_curia/congregations/cfaith/documents/rc_con_cfaith_doc_20070629_responsa-quaestiones_en.html

I am going to read this for myself and see if this alleged statement by the Pope is, in fact, true and being interpreted properly. See what you think.

7/17/07 I have now read the statement which was authored by another individual and "authorized for publication" by the Pope.

It seems as if the document, set up as a series of questions and answers, is stating that the Catholic Church is the "one" true, or original, church as created by Jesus before his death -- when He made Peter "the rock" upon which His church would be built and His apostles the first priest of the church.

The document allows that other religions -- particularly those that celebrate the mystery of the Holy Eucharist -- are "sister" churches that can share in the salvation promised by Jesus. But it seems as if there is a hope that all disperse religions, will at some point in the future, reunite as "one" and in doing so work more fully toward salvation for all.

I personally don't think that Jesus would want various religions fighting over which religion is the "one" true religion. What a distraction and waste of our time and energy, when together we could unite and pray and work for peace and an end to violence. But there are many written works that speak of the "end times", and in these there are numerous prophecies of "all world religions uniting as one". What a force to be reckoned with: if total unity of Christian -- and other religions of the one true God -- could actually become a reality.

The Pope is said to be inspired by God himself, and so perhaps Pope Benedict is acting on the will of God. Perhaps this statement is supposed to begin to get people thinking about: 1) the unification of religions and 2) the enormous power that we would represent to make God's will done "here on earth as is in heaven" as "one" unified church. The logistics to that end may be a bit more complicated. But perhaps, we can pray and reflect on this statement and its true intent before taking offense. Then in prayer, perhaps God will open our hearts to His will and plan for us here on earth.

I will also pray that Pope Benedict may improve his skills of empathy, compassion, and diplomacy. Perhaps he can revisit some of the works of his predecessor, Pope John Paul II, for guidance and insight.
