I Love Numbers ...

It never ceases to amaze me the way numbers come into play in my life ... I'm not a supersticious person or anything, but numbers really do play a significant role in my life. For instance, without even trying ... or really even noticing until the night before ... my first post for the New Year on my other blog was #100. And yesterday, I noticed that I had hit 1111 profile visits here on this blog ... the day of the 11th of January 2011 ... 1-11-2011. What are the odds? Well, quite frankly I don't believe in "the odds", nor do I play them ... I prefer to defy them. How about you?

Stuff like this happens to me ALL the time ... I should be buying more lottery tickets, no? ; )

Well, I hope today brings scores of FANTABULOUS things your way! Make today ROCK! : )

And I hope today brings a major score  in the U.S. House of Representatives, as the House was (I believe) scheduled to vote on the repeal of the "Healthcare Reform law", where Major Score == A VOTE TO REPEAL THE "Healthcare Reform law" (a massive snowball of a piece of legislation).

Lauren's Snowman

Lunchtime ... Here are some amazing numbers for you:  Just heard on the news that at the present moment 49 out of our 50 U.S. States have snow on the ground.  Even Hawaii has 7 inches of snow in the mountain regions.  Only Florida remains untouched by snow, and to the best of my recollection they have had some snow themselves a bit earlier in the season.  Have to say that these numbers would seem to deliver the final blow to the "global warming" theory.  And our snow, here in the Seattle area, did stick on the ground ... so my kids got the day off of school which they are loving.  Let it snow! : )

Still Peddling "Global Warming"?

Can you believe it: there are still staunch supporters of "Global Warming" out there? ... And we were hit with snow here, in the USA, in Las Vegas today!! Las Vegas of all places ... The "playground in the desert"!?!  ... The snow shut down highways, with up to 15 inches falling in surrounding areas (i.e., 50 miles out) of Las Vegas ... where schools were closed for perhaps the first time ever in history.  The east coast and northern midwest have been hit with record snowfalls as well, and here in the Seattle area we've had snow twice already this year  ... on two different occasions ... the last of which has remained on the ground for the last 6 days.

Slideshow of "Snow in Las Vegas"

Still the proponents of "Global Warming" continue to press onward with their agenda?  Specifically, Cap and trade ... emissions regulation with cash penalties ... the cost of which will ultimately be picked up by the little guy (i.e., you and me) in the form of lost jobs and higher ultility bills.

Here's some interesting reading ...

I'm all for taking care of our beautiful planet ... but let's get real about what we are talking about here.  Wake up politicians with an ulterior agenda:  You can dress it any way you want, but we aren't buying "Global Warming" anymore!!

I heard an awesome remark about the "science" behind Global Warming today:

"The only concrete evidence of man's direct influence on 'Global Warming' is in the scientific manipulation of the data regarding 'Global Warming'."

That about sums it up, wouldn't you say?

Global Warming: Has it Stopped? Reversed?

'Politically correct' environmentalists and politicians -- I believe, with an ulterior profit driven agenda -- have been trying to convince us as we humans of planet earth continue pumping huge amounts of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases into the environment that the net result of our actions alone will be a significant rise in global temperatures. They also claim that possibly within the very next decade that this 'global warming' will have potentially devastating consequences (i.e., shrinking Arctic ice, rise in sea temperatures and sea levels, etc.).

But according to a recent University of Wisconsin study, some unknown natural processes may have actually stopped the warming trend that was first detected in the late 1970's. According to the Wisconsin study, research has indicated that global temperatures have actually flat-lined since 2001.

The Wisconsin scientists can only theorize as to the cause for this trend. Some theories include: 1) increase in tropical cloud cover reflecting sun's light back out into outer space; and 2) unusually strong ocean currents sucking warmer water back down to the ocean's depths where it is then cooled.

While the University of Wisconsin study doesn't completely discredit the global warming hysteria, it should at least merit a national headline. Wouldn't you agree? Have you seen any such headlines? Further, this study lends credence to what many scientists have long been saying: "that science still doesn't fully understand the immense complexity of Earth's ever-changing climate." As evidence to the latter:  the year 2008 was the coolest year on record in the entire past decade, with snow paralyzing much of the United States Midwest and Eastern Coasts. Europe suffered through similar storms of its own as well, and snow fell on New Orleans and Las Vegas of all places. Go figure?

Just something to think about. Maybe now would be a good time to start questioning some of the hype that is being crammed down our throats? Information is power.

Please don't misunderstand:  I absolutely love nature! I love gardening and animals. I love just being outside and in touch with nature. Just ask my kids, I don't even like killing flies and spiders. I try to trap them in a glass and set them back outside. I'm all for planting trees, recycling, and conserving our natural resources. That being said, I am just not ready to buy into the whole global warming hype. What truly concerns me about our environment  is all of the chemical toxins that we are constantly dumping into our environment -- even household cleaning products. There is a balance to everything. With a little bit of insight, ingenuity and effort, I am confident that we (the human race) will find that balance.

And one last thought 5_18_09: What about all of the toxins and chemicals that we are constantly pouring out into our environment? These toxins have a much more immediate, and devastating effect, upon us in the here and now (i.e., cancers, increase in thyroid diseases, and hormone imbalances in women and young children, lead poisoning, etc.).

So What about toxic pollution?! Why isn't there a universal uproar, and 'green approach', to dealing with toxic pollution? Why: because the Almighty DOLLAR is at stake in this instance.  The cost to stop, reverse and clean-up toxins has been deemed too costly by the  'powers that be'... They simply won't allow a public uproar or information dissemination to occur. Also, there is no chance for profit in cleaning up toxic pollutants -- like there is in the sale of 'green' cars, 'green' light bulbs, 'green' appliances, etc. Follow the dollar trail:Go figure?!

Forget Global Warming: Let's do something tangible, right here and NOW, to secure a bright future for our children

I've had another thought about the current proposed economic stimulus package. Instead of spending one single penny on "global warming research," let's put seat belts in our children's public school buses. I am sure that the $450 million allocated for global warming research will more than cover the bill for equipping our nation's school buses with seat belts.

How can we even worry about an abstract, highly controversial, and future problem like global warming when we are sending our kids out, right now and on a daily basis, on these school buses without seat belts?! Death or injury by bus accident seems a much more statistically probable concern than global warming. The comparison would almost be laughable, if it weren't so appalling.

States have laws requiring parents to have seat belts on children under 12. Some states even require car seats up to 70 lbs. now, but these same states allow school buses to operate without seat belts? What are our lawmakers and politicians thinking? They aren't! And where are the parents whose children ride on these buses? Even if a child walks to school, they may ride on school buses for field trips and other events. Why aren't parents up in arms about this very real and potential hazard to their children?

Let's do something tangible, right here and now, to secure a bright future for our children:
let's put seat belts in our nation's school buses.

Now, I'm not saying let's totally dismiss global warming. I am saying let's put things into perspective. Let's tackle a REAL problem -- one that we have some immediate control over -- that can do some good, right here and now, for our children. And bonus: tackling this problem can create real jobs to stimulate the economy at the same time.

I just haven't jumped on the "Al Gore global warming" bandwagon. Contrary to popular opinion -- which is not hard core science -- there are many many individuals and scientist who are not on board with the "Al Gore theory on global warming." I am not convinced that global warming is anything that we, as mere humans, can truly control, or that our contribution to global warming is a factor that will significantly speed up, or impact, a process which has scientifically been proven to have occurred many times in the history of our planet, when humans were not a significant contributing factor.

Let's do the objective research -- empahsis on OBEJTIVE -- but let's tone down the cost of doing the research. With this approach, we can address more immediate and pressing issues like the safety of our children and the pitiful state of our nation's economy.
