“Stop School Violence Act”

“Stop School Violence Act” Passed in U.S. House of Representatives on 3/14/2018, in the morning session, By a vote of 407 for to 10 against. Bill had 75 member co-sponsors.

1) Bill will provide $50 Million dollars, each year, for 10 year period to provide for –as each school district decides-- training of teachers and staff, hiring retired police officers and former military personnel to perform security, purchasing and staffing metal detectors.

2) Provides students increased access to mental health services.

3) Strengthens background checks (not sure if this bill provides for national database sharing?).

4) Allows select teachers who pass psychological and special training to conceal carry their weapons at school (Believe this allowance would have to be renewed each school year).

Bill removed plan to increase gun purchase age to 21. This and related gun control issues will be debated and put forward separately so as to speed up getting tangible help to schools A.S.A.P. --i.e., gun control debate inclusion would have unnecessarily split vote and likely prevented the bill's timely release.

Bill will have to be voted on and passed in U.S. Senate before it can become law.
